Ferienhotel Kastellatz is a family hotel in South Tyrol: it stands at 1,740 m in Prämajur above Mals in the Vinschgau, around 100 m from the valley station on the Watles. Your children will find a children's pool with a slide, play rooms and a bowling alley in the house; outside, trails and slopes begin right at the door.
This page sets out what the house offers families, which rooms sleep three or four people and which outings with children are worthwhile in the Upper Vinschgau. The Thöni family will be glad to advise you personally.
The spa includes a children's area with a children's pool and a slide; the indoor pool has direct access to the sunbathing lawn. Children are welcome in the indoor pool in the company of their parents, and the spa is included in your stay.
Please book the children's massage (about 25 minutes, ages 6 to 14) in good time.
Terrace and lawn with slide and swing, easy to see from the house.
Two mini bowling alleys for young and old.
When it rains outside or gets dark: a play room with play corner and gaming computer, and a dedicated toddlers' playroom.
Billiards and calcetto (table football) in the games area of the house.
For the older ones: table tennis in the games area of the house.
Rooms that can be darkened, socket covers and cots to borrow. Drying rack, washing machine and tumble dryer for a fee.
Children are served first. A colouring set and toys bridge the waiting time; a high chair or baby seat and seat cushions are ready.
For families with two children, several categories offer a second sleeping place in the room. The Panorama Suite “Stelvio” has a double couch next to the double bed, ideal for two children, and sleeps up to four people; in the Panorama Suite “Ortler” a double wall bed is built into the living area (up to four people).
The Wellness Suite “Kastellatz” with a double bed and couch sleeps up to four people, and the Junior Suite “Cevedale” has a double bed and sofa bed. The Comfort Room “Piz Lun” with a couch suits one child (up to three people). The Garden Suite “Madritsch” is the largest suite in the house: two separate bedrooms, two balconies and its own small garden terrace, sleeping up to four people.
The booking calendar shows which rooms are free for your dates. Children's rates are graded by age and are set out on the prices page.

The Watles valley station is around 100 m from the house. In summer, well-marked, family-friendly walks with panoramic views over the Upper Vinschgau basin start here. At the top station there is a children's playground and the play lake (Spielesee), plus a 3D archery course. Whether the lift runs or you walk up depends on the season; we are happy to tell you when you book.
In winter the Watles is a small, sunny ski area without long waits at the lifts. For children there is the Bubo children's park for ages 4 and up with magic carpets, a ski school and the 4 km natural toboggan run from the Plantapatsch hut to the valley station; sledges can be rented at the top station.
Waalwege: the paths along old irrigation channels are almost flat, suit family outings and can be walked all year.
Lake Reschen (about 30 minutes): the Romanesque bell tower in the water and an easy circuit of the lake that also works with a pushchair.
SportWell Mals (about 15 minutes): indoor pool, in summer an outdoor pool with a 50 m water slide and a children's area, plus a four-lane bowling alley. Current opening times are on sportmals.net.
Marienberg Abbey in Burgeis (about 10 minutes): the museum shows monastic life; the crypt can only be seen on a guided tour with advance booking. The abbey is closed on Sundays.
Glurns (about 20 minutes): a small town of around 900 inhabitants, enclosed by a walkable town wall with three gate towers.
Swiss National Park (from about 1 hour's drive, season mid-May to mid-November): route 13 “Champlönch” has a children's trail with ten audio stations via the free park app. No trail in the park suits pushchairs, and dogs are not allowed.
Prämajur is a hamlet at 1,740 m above Mals. Covered, supervised parking is available right at the hotel. If you travel without a car, train and bus are summarised on a page of their own.
