Route description

Trail no. 1 begins at the edge of Schlinig, next to the cross-country centre. It is wide, asphalted at first and hardly climbs. You walk up the valley across meadows and pastures and reach the Schlinig alp at 1,868 m after about an hour. The way back follows the same route.

The alp is a publicly accessible alpine farm with regional cuisine. The holiday region describes the trail as easy and suitable for the whole family. The figures above, 5.2 kilometres and 130 metres of ascent, apply to the outward and return trip together.

If you want to go further, follow the forest road up the valley behind the alp; a hiking trail to the Sesvenna hut branches off to the right there. That continuation is much more strenuous: from Schlinig it is 5.3 kilometres and 547 metres of ascent, medium difficulty.

What you will see

The Schlinig valley is an open, quiet valley with alpine meadows, individual larches and the Schlinig stream. The rock face of the Schwarzwand shows in the background of the alp. In winter the trail serves as a winter hiking trail.

Schlinig itself is worth a short look back: the village lies below the Watles, whose heights you can also climb from Prämajur.

With children and a dog

The trail is wide and hardly climbs, which makes it a good introduction to hiking even with younger children. It is possible for dogs; however, livestock graze on the pastures, so keep your dog on a lead and close pasture gates behind you.

Practical tips and safety

Bus no. 277 runs to Schlinig; with the Reschensee Guest Pass, train and bus travel throughout South Tyrol is included in your stay, and current timetables are on suedtirolmobil.info. If you drive, park at the edge of the village.

The Schlinig alp is not open all year; check the opening times with the operator before you set off. Even on this short tour take rain protection and a warm layer, as the weather in the valley can change quickly.
